What is a developing country?
A developing country is a place where most people have a poor standard of living. The governments in these countries do not have very much money and many people live in poverty, without access to things like clean water or electricity. Many countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America are in the "developing world".
What is a sustainable developing country?
It is a country that grows and develops in a sustainable way. That means that the country tries to meet the present needs of people living in it, without stopping future generations from being able to meet their needs.
What exactly would a developing country need to do to become sustainable?
Use technology that can be looked after locally.
Encourage people to use simple technologies, like wind-up radios.
The natural resources of a country should be used responsibly, rather than over-used.
Factories and farms should use energy carefully.
Ensure that the building of things like roads or schools impact on the environment as little as possible.
Create laws that force companies to prove that they run in a sustainable way.
Use renewable energy for transport systems.
Develop industries, like food creation industries, that use local resources rather than depending on resources from other countries.
What should developed countries do to help developing countries become sustainable?
Developed countries should cancel any debts that the developing countries owe. The richer countries should work together with the poorer countries to create sustainable development projects.
What can you do to help?
Ask your parents to write to members of the government in your country, urging the government to cancel third world debt and help developing countries become sustainable.
Remember?/p>
We owe it to future generations to leave them a sustainable world to live in!
