Why do we use cars?
To go:
Shopping.
To school.
On holidays.
Any place we need to get to.
Can cars hurt us?
Yes. When cars move, they let out gases that can make:
Plants and animals die.
The air dirty.
It hard for us to breathe.
A lot of noise.
The water we drink unclean.
Are there cars that are less harmful to the environment?
Yes. In the last few years, cars that are more environmentally friendly have been created. These include:
Electric cars. These are cars that are powered by a battery and they do not let out any pollutants into the air.
Hybrid electric cars. These cars use an electric motor along with another energy source, such as a small petrol engine. Hybrid electric cars such as the Toyota Prius release very few pollutants into the air.
What can you do to help?
If you are going somewhere that is within walking distance, walk rather than getting there in a car.
Ride a bike rather than using a car.
Use a bus or train rather than using a car.
Ask your parents if they can give a friend a ride to a place you are both going, if you are using a car.
Remember....
By using cars less, you will:
Get more exercise, meaning you will look and feel healthier.
Make the world a cleaner place for you and me!
